Hello!
This is my first post on this blog. So far I've gone through almost 8 weeks of the first volume of This Week in Texas. Today I did half of number 6, number 7, and half of number 8. I will probably want to go back through all of them to make sure that I've actually compared the transcripts with the PDFs and made sure that they correspond. There are a couple pages that do not have anything in the transcript section so I'll go back to those and just type out what's on the pages. Volume 1, Number 5 has a duplicate page called "Sampling Texas, cont." that I am unsure what to do with.
I think my main questions are about formatting. I've noticed that the CONTENTdm software (I think this is the one that's doing it!) creates text that is formatted pretty consistently. However, there are some times that it doesn't. The examples I remember are in the "This Week's Supporters" section. Most often the businesses are listed like this: Name - Address - Phone number. But sometimes, instead of the hyphen (-) there's just a little dot. I'm wondering if I should change these or leave them be.
Also, when I put the businesses' information into the Description section, I usually use the "Name - Address - Phone number" format, unless the information is missing from the particular page that I find the business on. For example, sometimes I'll just put the name of the place. Also, an address for the same place is written differently on different pages. Should I leave it the way I find it on the page or try to format them consistently throughout the magazine/volume? Also, when I put the businesses from the "This Week's Supporters" section, I usually leave the type of business it is in the list (for example, "Lounges:" or "Church:"). I don't know why I'm doing this and I don't know if I should. Lastly, I am putting in the description businesses that I find in long lists or ads, but also ones that I see mentioned in some of the little blurbs written up by the authors. I'm wondering if this is a good idea/necessary/unnecessary.
These are the questions that I can think up right now! Thanks for taking a look! We'll see how Tuesday goes.
As far as the process and content, I think it's all really fun. I recognize a lot of the addresses and I'm so tempted to go and see what they look like now. I think I really will.
